70 Hours

In true Queensland fashion, we were on the receiving end of some pretty severe weather this past weekend.

What started out as some much needed rain (the remnant of Tropical Cyclone Ozwald), turned into a fierce 2 day wind and rain storm.

The calm before the storm!

Major flooding all over the southeast of the state followed, one of the reasons I'm thankful to live on a mountain! We did, however, lose power along with our water (we need a pump to get the water inside) for close to 70 hours. We have had to throw out all of our food. After 2 days, the weather had died down enough, for us to brave a drive to my Mum's to see if she had power, (she did), and we had showers, charged phones, and had some hot food. On the upside I got plenty of knitting done, and read 2 books, and our tanks are 100% full!!

Kaleb covering school books by candlelight.

Roman's first day of school was postponed, due to no power at the school. He was a little disappointed, but still really happy to go the next day. He has just come home from his second day, and has really enjoyed it, although he was a bit sad today as he lost his hat.

I'm excited to have power and water again, today I vacuumed and mopped the whole house.  We unfortunately have a bit of minor water damage where windows have leaked, but as we are renting, the Real Estate will look after this. A bit more cleanup up to do over the next few day, cleaning mouldy walls  and catchup on the laundry.

So that is a little of what's been happening around here.

  1. You poor things, losing power is a big issue isn't it. We were lucky and didn't but I know that lots went through similar. Thinking about buying a generator for 'next time'. Hope things have settled down now and Roman is getting into the swing of school routine (btw that won't be the only lost hat!). cheers Wendy
