I finished a WIP!
This shawl has been on a little journey. Originally, I had seen this amazing red Danish Tie Shawl on Pinterest and I really felt like I had to have one. Eventually, I had collected so many odds and ends of Bendigo Woollen Mills Brick Red that I thought I could make one with all of that. I found the right pattern - Tess of the D'urbevilles (on Ravelry).
I started the knitting, it was super easy and meditative. I quickly worked through my stash of red. It felt heavy and looked huge. I didn't have much of my red left so I made the decision to cast off. So exciting, until I realised that it was nowhere near as big as I thought it would be!
Hmmm What to do?
Add some crochet? I didn't have enough red to keep to that colour, so I searched my stash and found two complementary colours - gold and green. After adding the crochet border, it still was not large enough.
I decided to cave and I ordered more Brick Red. I added 9 more rows of crochet this week to get it finished. (I was pretty over it!)
So after all that, I absolutely love it. It's really big and cosy. It's not quite big enough for a tie shawl but it will be a perfect Autumn/Winter warmer.
Next up, and I hope to be finished today or tomorrow, is my Slate Grey Boneyard Shawl.
No reading this week!

DeleteShara, the shawl is amazing!!! So clever to finish it off with crochet too. The red brick yarn is my favourite colour. I'm actually working on a WIP cardigan in that gorgeous colour.
ReplyDeleteBrick was my go to colour for a very long time! It really is a great earthy red. X
DeleteLove the red! I am planning on starting a red and cherry colored shawl soon (for another mystery knit-a-long). I love the crochet at the bottom, such a personal touch.xxx
