December is here, Summer too.....

Wow, Life is busy here at the moment, and blogging is getting away from me. I have been sewing, knitting, playing, preparing and welcoming.

My Mother in Law arrived last Friday to live with us, and so I  busy preparing a comfortable room for her. I am slowly letting go of the feeling that she is watching my every move, (she isn't, of course, I just feel a little self concious), and enjoing having some adult company around during the day, and some help around the house. In truth apart from making my bed and cooking dinner, I haven't had to do any housework. She doesn't stop!!

I have been making lots of Christmas decorations, and present bags, and presents.

Sewing cushions ( I have a little cushion tutorial planned to share too), and a seasonal banner.

I have made 2 skirts for myself, repurposing 2 sheets from the op-shop.

I have been baking cakes and hoping to share those here (even though one was a half-flop!).

I completed The Wholefood Kitchen course from Beauty That Moves.

We attended a Family Fun Day Christmas Party at Kaleb's work.

We have begun our Advent Calender. And this year I have gone easy on myself, after last years advent burnout!

I had a wonderful visit from a friend that I hadn't seen in 4 years. We stayed up late chatting, drinking some bubbly, and eating risotto!

It has been so hot here most days, and one day this week, we lost power. No air conditioning and no water as we have an electric pump from our tanks. I was ill prepared and didn't even have a jug of water in the fridge for drinking. I had to pop to the shops for some fresh water. We then had 3 fire engines and the entire Rural Fire Brigade zoom past our house sirens blaring. A bushfire had broke out around 1km from our house, thankfully it was contained quickly! Bushfires have been springing up all over the state, indeed the country, this past week, fueled by extreme temperatures, no rain, and high winds. Australia is a country of extremes, for sure.

Now as Christmas gets ever closer, I am looking forward to winding down, keeping cool and spending time with family. We celebrate my Dad's birthday on the 12th, then my Brother, Dean and Sister in Law, Sera, and their 2 boys will be here for Christmas, and then we celebrate as a family on Boxing Day, for my Grandma's 90th birthday!

Come January, I will celebrate 1 year of this blog! This month saw One Grey Elephant pass 10,000 page views!

  1. The other day when it got up to 39 degrees was just awful, wasn't it! We lost power for a couple of hours that day too. I have to admit I camped in the shower until it came back on and I could get my aircon back.

  2. You have been busy! Sounds like lots of loveliness though, apart from the temperature. We've been melting too. Wouldn't mind a bit of rain! :)

  3. I love reading about your weather - as I am dealing with making sure we have enough heat, this sounds so weird! (sorry about the loss of power!)

Have fun with your MIL - I felt exactly the same way when mine moved in with us in July.

    Blessings
