January 2

We went along to a wonderful New Years Eve party! I haven't been to one since we've had kids, but I'm glad we made the effort, so much fun! The kids spent the afternoon riding quad bikes (that's Roman with the helmut on), then the bonfire was lit, and we roasted marshmallows. Yum!

New Years Day saw a much anticipated event come to pass: Roman lost his very first tooth!

Kaleb and I have been talking over the last few (wobbly) weeks, about what special tradition we could have for the first tooth. We are not much into tooth fairies and the like. We decided to just make it a special day for the child. Roman chose to go swimming, and then he wanted Roast Chicken drumsticks with Mama's tasty homemade gravy, with Chocolate Cake and Pomegranate Jewels for afters!

He is 5yrs 9m, and I'm interested to see what changes take place in him, now the tooth is gone. He's about to start first grade, and previously he has been hesitant about moving out of Prep, but yesterday, he was most relieved to announce he could move up! Oh the things that go through a child's head! I think that because he is one of the youngest in his class, most of the other kids have lost many teeth, and so he was worried he was too young.

I've decided to have a no-craft January. It will be hard, but I have some great books waiting to be read, so I'll use my knitting time, which is usually after the children go to sleep, to read instead. Then, February will be full steam ahead, preparing for Roman's 6th birthday on March 14.

I hope you've all had a wonderful start to the new year! I've been reading so many wonderful blog posts regarding intentions or resolutions for 2014. For me, this will be the Year of the Mother. Time to start putting myself back on the priority list!
