Welcome, Winter....

I cannot believe that Winter is upon us already!! Truth be told, I'm a bit upset that my favourite season, Autumn, passed us by in a haze of rain and sickness. Oh well, will have to wait till next year!

Our Winter banner is up! Now I have made a full set of seasonal banners, the others are here, here and here.

The very exciting thing about Winter this year, is that it will herald the arrival of our little babe! We are all getting excited...well maybe not Leo, who doesn't quite understand, and says things like "No Baby Tummy Mummy!"

Roman keeps asking me if it will snow, but I keep disappointing him with the truth! I think it can be a bit confusing as all the children's books we read about winter involve snow. Do you have any recommendations for winter themed books that aren't about snow men and sledding?

I've been pinning some Winter inspiration, you can see that board here....

We've been experimenting with different oils in the oil burner, mainly eucalyptus, peppermint and lemongrass. Leo is mesmerised by the flicker of the little tea light candle.

In fact I am quite addicted to anything eucalyptus at the moment! Eucalyptus medicine (ahem....lollies!), eucalyptus chest rub for the kiddies and mama, eucalyptus in the vaporiser at night time.... yep, I love it.

We will also be enjoying plenty of Butterscotch Pudding in the coming months, so easy and so tasty on a cold night.

Butterscotch Pudding (my Mum's recipe)

1 cup self raising flour, sifted,
3/4 cup sugar,
1/2 cup milk,
60g butter, melted,
2 tablespoons golden syrup,
30g extra butter,
1 1/2 cups hot water.

Mix flour and sugar together, blend in milk and melted butter.  Mix well.  Spoon into greased ovenproof dish.  Set aside.  Place all remaining ingredients in a small saucepan, stir over a low heat until butter melts.  Pour over mixture in ovenproof dish. Bake in moderate oven 180 deg. for 30 - 35 mins. or until golden.

Serve with cream or vanilla ice cream ..... so delicious!

Stay warm, Friends!

Keep Calm, Craft On

First port of call on the crafting front this week, was a trip to Spotlight on Saturday to take advantage of their 40% off all Fabric Sale! I didn't go overboard, but I did deviate from my list a little when I came upon some rainbow fat quarter bundles. Usually $25 per pack, they were now $14.95! I bought 2.

After some cutting they are now ready to be turned into some deliciously colourful flags. I was inspired by some I saw on Pinterest.

Now I just need to get sewing!

Autumn Cowl

I had a (small) burst of energy on Monday, and decided to sew myself something nice. Partly to lift my mood and partly to prepare for the colder weather.

I am now 16 weeks pregnant, and still feeling horribly ill. With both the boys, it's lasted till the mid 30 weeks, so I'm not holding my breath for it to subside any time soon.

When I felt like sewing on Monday morning, I sifted through my Pinterest boards looking for inspiration. I had pinned a tutorial for the Infinity Cowl ages ago, and decided to go with that.

I used 3 different fabrics that I had on my shelf. The grey is suiting material, that I found at the opshop ages ago, the floral is a quilting cotton, and the plaid is a flannel.

Seeing as I'll be pregnant through winter, and I already have plenty of maternity clothes, I think just a few homemade accessories to jazz it all up, will be all I'll need!

Fisherboy Pants

Recently I have been so inspired by Udder's new collection, particularly the Tin Tin Pants. However, they are slightly beyond my price point, especially for kids clothes!

Then the other day when I was hanging out on Pinterest, I spotted a pants tutorial, that looked kind of similar.

I purchased some fabric last week, but Roman said he didn't like it (I love it, it will definitely get used!), so I let him choose another print, which turned out to be the one that I had chosen for Leo.... oh well, Leo won't mind, he's not fussy;)  I've noticed in the last month or so that Roman is starting to assert himself more when it comes to clothing. I don't mind of course, but he literally went from not caring at all, to having a pretty strong opinion.

It has been a while since I have sewn anything that requires a bit more brainpower. So these did take me most of the day. I traced a pair of Roman's pants to get the size but in the end, I was cutting it a bit close on the fit around the waist. They only just fit!!

And then with only a few centimetres left on the last seam, my needle snapped! Grrr... We still have not unpacked so much stuff, so it really was like trying to find a needle in a haystack, or in this case, a box stack!!

Anyway, I got there in the end. And most importantly, Roman loves them!!

I think they are great, although they could have been a bit roomier.

Keep Calm, Craft On

This week I finished another two Pinterest inspired projects! You can check out my Pinterest Challenge board here..... and see which Pinterest challenges i've completed here...

The first was a sweet spring inspired craft for our school-free co-op, Tiny Forest.

And the other was some jar decorating. I'm getting ready to create my new sewing/craft space and these will be used for storing bits and bobs....

What have you been working on this week?
