Yarn Along

It has been a quiet yarning week this week, What with the busy-ness of birthdays (here and here) and my Mother in Law staying (she has left just this afternoon), I've been spending as much time with family as possible.

This blanket was a gift I made for my MIL for her birthday. I used a recycled doona cover (the black back) and got the beautiful purple quilting cotton from Spotlight. The edge is crocheted with a bamboo/cotton blend.

I have started knitting a little something for myself. 8 feet of stockinette stitch. Should be good practice for this beginner knitter. It will be a Rainbow Cowl, except, it's obviously red, not rainbow!

I also made myself a little "mug rug" based on one I saw in my Instagram feed (I'm on there as mamashara).

For my birthday my husband ordered me Down to Earth by Rhonda Hetzel. I love it and have almost finished reading it!! I highly recommend it if you are interested in self sufficiency and making your own soaps, laundry liquids, cleaners etc! You should also check out her blog, so much great stuff there!

  3. I love the crochet border, it really does add to the blanket. 8ft of stockinette, phew, I'm tired just thinking about it. Excellent for when you don't want to focus too much, I love it :)

  4. Pretty blanket for a homemade birthday gift! Wasn't it hard to crochet into the fabric? And your cowl will be nice....as we're getting warmer weather, you're getting colder weather, being on the opposite side of the wondrous world that God made! ♥

That looks like a great book. When my 10 year old daughter was a baby, I was into making homemade yogurt for her quite often...and I made a batch last night, it's been a LONG time, but I love the silky texture of it, so different from what one gets at the store!

    1. Marfa! I have a special tool for poking through the fabric first!! Living in different hemispheres than most of my favourite blogs is tricky!! I get so much woolly inspiration during our summer months, and the last thing I want to do is be holding wool! I am looking forward to trying my hand at soapmaking!!
