When I was a young girl, one of my favourite things was to spend time making concoctions of all sorts. Sometimes in the garden, using flowers, leaves and dirt and sometimes in the kitchen, using my mums dried herbs and spices.
I've never really seen my boys do anything similar until a few afternoons ago, I came upon this scene outside. They were making basil pesto! Leo was picking a leaf, washing it in the cup (that earlier was used for washing the "gold" they were digging from the driveway!) and then Roman was mashing it all up in his "mortar & pestle".
I felt terrible when I had to turn down Romans offer to use his homemade pesto on my pizza, but I promised him that we would make delicious pesto in the kitchen soon enough.
